Travel-Lite and House Hockey
The Stamford Youth Hockey Association House League program will not only improve the skill level of your player, but more importantly it will teach your player how to enjoy the game of hockey from first timers to seasoned players. As a parent or guardian, we need your help to ensure your player enjoy this great sport.
We want you to enjoy the game of hockey as much as your player. Encourage your player. This program is about learning the game, meeting great people and enjoying the game. Together we can achieve this for your young player. Please see other sections of this web site for additional information.
Ages
What aged players are appropriate for this program?
We offer 8u, 10u and 12u levels which has historically included players from ages 5 - 14.
8u is a traditional house league with all games and practices held at consistent times on Saturday and Sunday mornings at Terry Conners rink.
10u and 12u is run as a travel-lite program with one practice during the week, and 1-2 games on Friday evenings or weekends.

When
What time of the year does this program run?
Season starts in the fall (late September or early October) and ends in March.
Where
Where are practices and games typically held?
8u practices and games are held at Terry Conners Rink
10u and 12u practices and home games are held at Terry Conners Rink. Away games are generally in the local area; Stamford, Darien, New Canaan, Greenwich, etc.

8u House & 10u Travel-Lite:
Stamford Resident: $2,100
Non-Resident: $2,300
U12 Travel-Lite:
Stamford Resident: $2,200
Non-Resident: $2,400
Practices
When are practices and how often are they?
8u practices are Saturday mornings
10u and 12u are once during the week in the evening.
Games
How many games will they play? What days of the week?
8u teams will play 1 game per week on Sunday mornings after a few weeks of practices in the beginning of the season.
10u and 12u teams will play 1-2 games per week. Games are generally on Friday evenings or on weekends.
Joining Mid-season
It may be possible to join mid-season depending on registration numbers. Email info@syha.org for more information.
Jerseys
Are jerseys provided or are they purchased separately?
Players receive a jersey that is used for practices and games in the beginning of the season.
Frequently Asked Questions
What equipment is needed?
Full equipment, including neck guard is required. All this equipment is for your players safety and helps them (and you!!) to get used to dressing and playing as they advance up the age divisions. Here is a listing of the full equipment:
- Helmet (HECC approved*) with cage
- Mouth Guard (suggested, but not required)
- Neck Guard
- Shoulder Pads
- Elbow Pads
- Hockey Gloves
- Hockey Jersey provided by SYHA
- Pants
- Shin Guards
- Cup/Jock/Shorts (different versions for under the pants - look for Velcro tabs to support socks)
- Socks (to cover the shin guards)
- Hockey Skates
- Stick - Tape (any color!) for top of stick and blade
- Pucks - for practice at home
- Hockey Equipment Bag

Registration for 2026-27 SYHA House League and Travel Lite Hockey seasons.
